Discover the story of our furnace. Tradition and innovation.
Born in the 1990s from the dedication of a family with a long-standing tradition of Master glassmakers, ESSE2 s.n.c. specializes in the production of Venetian glass beads, combining artistic vision with expert craftsmanship in glassmaking.
The origins of the Serena family, known by the nickname "Maisasio", are deeply rooted in the island of Murano, the beating heart of the ancient Venetian glassmaking tradition. The family's presence on the island dates back centuries, and their name has long been associated with significant innovations in the field. They are recognized among the inventors of the filigree technique, one of the most refined and complex Murano glass arts, characterized by the intertwining of delicate glass threads within a blown structure. This knowledge has been preserved and passed down from generation to generation, reaching the present day.
Honoring this precious legacy, ESSE2 was founded in the 1990s with the goal of merging tradition and innovation. The company specializes in the creation of Venetian glass beads made using the lampworking technique, where molten glass is wound around copper rods and enriched with 24K gold and silver leaf, resulting in small, unique works of art.
In 2018, driven by a desire to revive and enhance other aspects of Murano’s glassmaking heritage, the company embraced the ancient art of glassblowing. Its production expanded to include traditional "goti" – glasses used by master glassmakers in the furnace – as well as tumblers, bowls, and other artistic objects, all entirely handmade following the classic techniques passed down through the family.
Today, ESSE2 embodies a perfect balance between history and modernity: a family-run business that, proud of its roots and its nickname “Maisasio” – a symbol of identity and belonging – continues to pursue innovative materials and original designs, always maintaining the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. The company has been active for years in both the national and international markets, bringing the authentic beauty of Murano glass to the world.
